A Study on the Evaluation of Operation Level of Major Container Terminals in Busan Port

The aim of this research is to evaluate of operation level of major container terminals. To achieve this objective, GPI(Global Performance Index) proposed in the pervious research was adopted. GPI consists of five evaluation areas and 25 indicators based on field survey. For analysis, data from five container terminal operators in Busan port were collected. The results of data analysis showed that average level of terminal operation was 73.07. And results of data analysis revealed that main weakness area of five container terminal operators is yard operation. In detail, these terminals have several weaknesses, GCR(Gross Quay Crane Rate), average YT(Yard Tractor) deployment per QC(Quay Crane), available twin lift system, QC deployment for large vessel. In addition, it was found that weakness of information system for operation is monitoring and planning system for yard and docking work. Therefore, to improve overall operation performance, terminals need to focus on the efficiency of QC operation and adoption of information system with the optimization function.
