노인 문화자원봉사자의 생애사

A life history of older cultural volunteer

본 연구는 노인들의 생애과정에서 문화봉사와 관련된 경험을 심층적이고 맥락적 으로 분석하여 노인들의 의미있는 삶을 영위할 수 있는 논의의 장을 제공하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 다섯 명의 60∼70대 초반의 여성 노인 문화자원봉사자의 생애사례를 분석하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구는 2016년 6월부터 8월까지 심층면담을 수행하였고, 추가면담은 11월에 수행되어 총 10회의 심층 면담을 실시하였다. 수집된 생애 자료는 Mandelbaum(1973)이 제시한 3차원 분석 틀인 ‘삶의 영역, 전환점, 적응’을 적용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과, 노인 문화봉사자들의 삶의 영역은 ‘박탈된 삶’, ‘자원봉사자로서의 삶’, ‘문화 복지 체계에서의 삶’이고, 전환점은 ‘사회 참여 욕구’, ‘행복 찾기 및 자아 발견’, 그리고 적응은 ‘의사소통과 상호이해 추구’, ‘사회적 실천 추구’로 나타났다. 이 분석결과는 노인의 생애사적 관점을 통한 문화자원봉사 경험이 노인들에게 문화활동에 대한 관심을 유도하고 사회적 교류를 통한 심리적 소외 감을 극복하여 의미있는 삶을 영위하는 데 기여할 수 있다는 결론을 얻었다.

This study aims to explore the experiences of the older volunteers in relation to cultural volunteering in their life. The participants in this research were older people in their early 60s and 70s who were involved in community culture activities. Five out of the thirty older volunteers were chosen from among the cultural volunteers who participated in programs organized by the researcher. For the purpose of the study, the three-dimensional analysis frame of Mandelbaum(1973) — “Life domain, turnings, adaptations — was used to analyze life history. Therefore, this study analyzes the life stories of the older volunteers, and I present their process of formation as they become cultural volunteers across time. The results of the analysis show that the older cultural volunteers life domains were described as ‘deprived life’, ‘life as a volunteer and ‘life in the cultural welfare system’. Turnings were identified as ‘desire for participation in society’ and ‘finding happiness’. On the other hand, adaptations were identified as ‘pursuit of communication and mutual understanding’ and ‘pursuit of social practices’. Based on the results of this study, a number of practical policy measures should be followed to increase the participation rate of older volunteers in community cultural activities.
