This research aims to analyze future residents preference for the planning of student housing using modular architectural system for college students. We conducted a questionnaire survey to investigate future residents’ preferences and needs for architectural environments that included floor plans, indoor space and furniture composition, and public space based on the result of the critical reviews of previous studies and design projects on modular architecture. A total of 208 responses were valid for statical analyses. Majors are as follows; Over 51% of the respondents were willing to live in the single occupancy with the separated bedroom and opening LDK(living zone-dining zone-kitchen)zone with private bathroom. In the case of double occupancy, future residents’ wanted to separate their bedroom from roommates‘, opening LDK zone with public bathroom. Over 57% of the residents emphasized the separation between private and public zone by the partitions, walls, and bath zone. Over 77% respondents preferred built-in furniture such as shelf, bed and table in order to strengthen the storage system in narrow indoor space and the efficiency of spacial composition. Lastly, Most residents wanted that the public zones such as unmanned parcel service zone and fitness center are set up at ground floor rather than underground level. The proposed results would contribute to the development of customized and affordable housing for students, guided by the essential dimensions to be considered for the application of modular housing.
