The purpose of this study was to examine effects of children s temperament, mother s discipline style and negative emotionality on young children s self-regulation. Subjects of this study were 435 mothers of young children aged 3-5 years old attending 2 kindergartens and 2 child care centers in C city. Data were analyzed by hierarchial regression through using SPSS 18.0 program. The results of this study were as follows: First, boys adaptability and activity temperament, mother s laissez-faire discipline style and negative emotionality had effects on boys impulsiveness control, while the most relatively influential factors on boys impulsiveness control were mother s laissez-faire discipline style, their activity temperament, mother s negative emotionality, and their adaptability temperament in order. Second, boy s adaptability, persistency, and regularity temperament, mother s logical-explanation and laissez-faire discipline style had effects on boys behavioral control, while the most relatively influential factors on boys behavioral control were mother s logical-explanation discipline style, their persistency, regularity, and adaptability temperament, and mother s laissez-faire discipline style, orderly. Third, girls adaptability and activity temperament, mother s laissez-faire discipline style and coercive-punishment discipline style had effects on girls impulsiveness control, while the most relatively influential factors on girls impulsiveness control were mother s laissez-faire discipline style, mother s coercive- punishment discipline style, their activity temperament, and their adaptability temperament orderly. Fourth, girls adaptability, persistency, and regularity temperament, and mother s logical-explanation discipline style had effects on girls behavioral control, while the most relatively influential factors on girls behavioral control were mother s logical-explanation discipline style, their persistency, regularity, and adaptability temperament in order.
