Characteristics and Policy Implications of the Newest Swedish Family Policy

The purpose of this study is to review and clarify the main characteristics as well as the recent major changes in Swedish family policy. Sweden, traditionally, has been well known for work-life balancing approach and strong gender equality principles. This study found and also emphasized high quality services, flexible leave schemes, adequate allowances, as well as fatherhood support programs, newly strengthened approach of equal developmental outcomes for every single child. Based on the findings, diverse relevant measures which develop individuals’ happiness no matter how their families are formed, no matter how their parents are living, are clearly necessary for restructuring Korean old-type family policies regarding the Korean society’s bottom rank of Better Life Index among OECD countries, especially in this period of lowest low fertility rate trap.
