The purpose of this study was to compare the static and dynamic balance of women who wear high-heeled shoes and those who wear sneakers. Twenty subjects (21.1 土 0.8 years) participated in this study (high heels = 10,sneakers = 10). Subjects who wore high heels more than 20 hours per week during the previous year were selected for the high-heeled group. Static balance was measured with the one leg standing test (OLST), and dynamic balance was measured using the star excursion balance test (SEBT). The OLST and SEBT were conducted barefoot and with 7 cm high heels in random order. All data were analyzed with an independent t test at statistical significance p < .05 to compare dependent variables between the two groups. There was no statistically significant difference between groups in the OLST or the SEBT either barefoot or wearing 7 cm heels, indicating no significant difference in static or dynamic balance. It can be concluded that wearing high heels for one year may not affect the static and dynamic balance of young women. Further study is needed to investigate the effect of high heels on the balance of women who frequently wear high heels for more than one year.
