This study examined the differences of muscle strength and balance according to the presence or absence of previous ankle sprain in young healthy adults. The subjects were healthy adults with a history of previous ankle sprains attending the University, Chungnam Asan-H material. Strength was measured in dorsiflexion , eversion, inversion, plantarflexion of ankle. Romberg test was carried out using a static balance ability evaluation. All data analyzed with paired t-test to compare dependent variables between sound and affected side. Statistical level of significance was set up as p<.05. All muscle strength (dorsiflexion, eversion, inversion, plantarflexion) in sound side were significantly greater than affected side (p<0.05). Furthermore, static balance ability also in sound side was greater than affected side (p=0.002). Subjects who experienced previous ankle sprains showed an imbalance of muscle strength and balance in both ankles, which indicates the possibility of a recurrence of ankle sprains. Therefore, the steady rehabilitation exercises for ankle strength and balance are considered necessary.
