Increases in physical activity provide many health benefits, but a higher percentage of older women are inactive. Literatures have shown a high prevalence of physical inactivity among women and ethnic minority and low-income populations. The purpose of this study was to identify the level of physical activity of community - dwelling, older Korean immigrant women. A face-to-face interview was performed with 122 Korean women, aged 65 to 93 years, living in California. Physical activity was measured with questions on lifestyle and planned leisure activity (exercise). Average age of the participants in this study was 77.6(土 6.54). 47.5% of older Korean-American women did not exercise at all at a moderate intensity physical activity level. Less than 24.6% of older Korean immigrant women were sufficiently active to achieve the full range of health benefits. This study provides important information on the assessment of physical activity among older Korean immigrant women. Results can be used to help improve assessments and to develop more effective interventions for unique groups of older Korean immigrant women.
