Developing Teaching Materials of Unification Education for Understanding North Korea Based on Everyday Life

본 연구의 목적은 북한 일상생활 중심의 통일교육이 필요함을 주장하고, 북한 사회에 대한 고정관념을 깨뜨리고 북한 주민에 대한 인간적 이해를 돕는 교수․학습자료를 제시하는 데에 있다. 북한에 대한 인식은 북한을 교류․협력의 대상으로 보는 한편 현실적으로 안보의 경계 대상임을 이해하는 균형 있는 북한관을 목표로 한다. 즉, 한쪽을 강조하면 다른한쪽은 약해질 수밖에 없는 사실은 대립적이고 긴장 관계에 있는 관점의 형성을 목표로 하는 것이다. 통일교육에서 북한이해 영역은 체제 및 구조 중심으로 구성되어있고, 거시적 관점에서 내용이 기술되어 있다. 이러한 틀 안에서는 북한의 정치, 경제, 군사적 특징이 부각되고 따라서 북한사회에 대한 비판적 사고가 강조될 뿐만 아 니라 이를 넘어 북한에 대한 부정적 인식이 조장될 우려도 있다. 북한이해 영역의 내용 요소는 통일의 대상이며 화해 협력의 대상으로서 북한(특히 북한 주민)을 바라볼 수 있는 주제가 적고, 이마저도 상부구조의 틀에서 해석하거나 민족 당위성이나 동포애 또는 인간애에 호소하고 있다. 사실상 북한이나 북한 주 민에 대해 긍정적으로 인식이 가능한 관점 자체가 부재하다고 할 수 있다. 북한은 체제로 ‘상징화’되고 사실상 북한체제는 북한주민과 동일시되고 있다. 그러므로 미시적인 관점에서 일상생활의 인간적 삶의 모습을 통해 북한 주민을드러내고, 그동안 우리가 북한을 바라보았던 관점까지도 비판적으로 검토할 필요가있다. 일상생활은 사회 구조에 종속된 행위자를 드러낼 뿐만 아니라, 또한 구조에서 벗어나거나 구조와 갈등하고, 구조를 변형하는- 행위자 나름의 세계에 대한 전유(appropriation)를 드러낸다. 일상생활은 북한에 대한 체제 중심의 단일 스토리를 깨뜨리고, 동태적이고 총체적인 북한 사회의 모습을 보여준다. 따라서 북한 주민의 일 상생활에 대한 이해는 북한 주민을 체제와 동일시하는 왜곡된 인식을 해소하고, 북한 주민에 대한 인간적 이해를 높이는 데에 도움을 줄 수 있다.

The purpose of this study is to assert the necessity of education for understanding North Korea in everyday life and then to suggest teaching materials that break stereotypes about North Korean society and are helps to understand the North Korean people. The dual perception about North Korea and content-constructs for Unification Education that leads to failure to understand North Korea and its people as a target of cooperation. The system-based approach makes North Koreans equal to the North Korean regime. Therefore, there is a concern that the existing system will form a negative image about North Korea and promote a negative perception of unification. Therefore, it is necessary to critically examine the way we have looked at North Korea through the image of human life in everyday life. An understanding of the daily life of the North Korean people can help to resolve the distorted perception that identifies the North Korean people with the system and to enhance the human understanding of the North Korean people.
