Selection of Proxy Variables for Flood V ulnerability Analysis using Analytic Hierarchy Process

A s the increased interesting on g lobal w arm ing and extreme water-related disasters, there are m any countries w hich have been suffering from the extreme floods induced by tropical cyclones in East A sia. Therefore, in this study, the Proxy V ariables fo r flo o d vulnerab ility analysis was proposed in the N akdong B asin and C hao Phraya river basin, K orea and T hailand, respectively. A s the results, it was discovered that the different geographical and hydrological characteristics delivers the different results o n the Proxy V ariables fo r flo o d vulne rab ility and corresponding flo o d forecasting and w arning systems in each basin. D ue to the different geographical characteristics, the dam age caused b y the sim ilar am ount o f m o nthly ra in fall is different according to the historical records. T his difference is expected to be caused by the different river regim e coefficient and s o il structures. The flo o d forecasting and w arning systems in the basins are also different. The proposed results w o u ld be used as the basic data for the flo o d vulnerability analysis.
