Superplastic Deformation Behavior of Mg-Li Alloy with Yttrium addition

Superplastic properties of three Mg-8.5wt%Li based alloys, containing free, 1.0 and 3.0 wt%Y respectively, were processed by the large strain warm-rolling route, are investigated at a testing temperature of 623 K in a range of strain rates from 2><10_5 to Is 1. The addition of yttrium has a significant and beneficial influence on increasing in superplastic strain rate of the Mg-8.5wt%Li based alloys. This is because the yttrium is found to enhance greatly refinement of the microstructures in the Mg-8.5wt%Li based alloys.
