Expnmental Study on the lire Extinguishing Performance Enhancement Fators of Water Mist system by Synthetic Surfactant Addition

Fire extinguishing experiment were carried out for the Heptane fire in a small scale fire room. Fire extinguishing performance was improved with the addition of synthetic surfactant foaming agent in water mist system. Water mist spray on the fuel pan with and without foaming agent were carried and the water content in the fuel pan was measured. Water mist spray on the Heptane surface also done and observe the surface state. And fire extinguishing time were measured with stopwatch and thermocouple. Based on the experimental result, it was found that the enhanced fire extinguishing performance with addition of foaming agent was caused by the blocKing effect of fuel surface by the foaming of water mist.
