A real-time embedded system, usually embedded as part of a complete system including hardware, software, and mechanical parts, is a special-purpose computer system designed to perform dedicated real-time tasks whose execution times are constrained to produce correct results not only in their values but also in the times at which the values are produced. Due to space and resource limitations and timeliness requirements of such systems, a very careful design and implementation process is required. This paper introduces a monitoring environment that aids the implementation, debugging, and testing of a real-time embedded systems; it consists of a personal computer with Microsoft Windows(R) as a host, a CLabSys LN2440SBC single board computer with uC/OS-II real-time OS as a target, and a serial communication link between the two. We focus on describing functions for state monitoring of LN2440SBC on which a real-time kernel uC/OS-II is ported.
