Design of a 155.52 Mbps Single Chip CMOS Transceiver for Fiber Optic Modules

A CMOS transceiver ASIC for the 155.52 Mbps optic modules using in the STM-1 fiber optic systems was designed with 0.65 \m silicon CMOS technology. It transmits 155.52 Mbps optical data that generated from system and transformed through laser diode. Also it receivers 155.52 Mbps optical data that transmitted form other system using photo diode and amplifier. The designed transceiver designed using not only special placement and routing technology but also guard rings and protection walls to avoid noise and interference between devices in ASIC chip. The area of the designed ASIC chip is 3.2 x 3.2 mm2, and the estimated power consumption of the chip are less than 900 mW with a single 5 V supply, respectively.
