The optical fiber sensor is a subject which has been attracted considerable attention in recent year. Especially, it is being developed for the detection and location of partial discharge in oil-filled transform ers. In th is paper, we propose and experim entally dem onstrate directivity and sensitivity of a hollow cylindrical m andrel sensor. The sound source is a P ZT actuator of hollow cylinder type. Several layers of the fiber lam inated around the m andrel surface and experim ents were perform ed on three axis modes. The experim ental results can be applied to analyze detected signals optim ally.
