A Study on the Improvement Methods for the Problems caused by the Non-Extended Balcony Units in the Apartments

Since the extended balcony has been legalized in the apartments, the choice of extended balconies has become common, and now many problems are being caused by the non-extended units. In study reasons out the problems of non-extended balcony are found out through the architectural drawings and questionnaires of the apartments that are currently under construction and suggests the improvement methods. First, the thermal losses are occurred through upper and lower parts of the non-extended balcony when a non-extended balcony exists in between the extended bacony units. the heat loss through the non-extended balcony is high. Therefore, it is necessary to secure a space for installing the insulation on upper and lower parts of the non-extended balcony. Second, there should be designed for the handling methods of the rainwater from the outside of the balcony in the non-extended balcony units. Third, the wall between the non-extended balcony should be lightened in order to secure the safety of structural design for the non-extended unit type even if the structural design is based on the extended unit type in the reality that most residents choose the extended unit type.
