Yinyang? Yangyin? - A Cognitive Approach to the Myth of Yinyang -

음양은 범주화의 도구이자 발화의 규칙이다. 이 두 가지 역할 사이에는 어떤 긴장이 내재되어 있다. 음양을 통해 범주화된 낱말쌍들은 대부분 양-음의 순서로 진술된다. 이 현상의 철학적 의미는 무엇인가? 이 글은 한편으로는 ‘음양의 신화’라고 부를 수 있는 현대적 입장을 비판적으로 고찰한다. 그 순서는 다음과 같다. 첫째 음양은유군으로 명명한 일련의 개념쌍들을 언급하는 어법에는 명백한 편향성이 존재한다. 둘째 이 편향성의 의미를 이해하기 위해 신체화된 인지의 관점에서 음양론적 사유의 인지모델을 재구성한다. 셋째 이 과정에서 음양의 핵심적 의미 두 가지가 나타난다. 하나는 구성적이라고 부를 수 있고, 다른 하나는 해체적이다. 전자는 ‘양음론적 어법의 자의성에 대한 비판에 기초한 대안적 질서로서 음양론적 어법의 구성’한다. 후자는 ‘양음론적 어법의 자의성에 대한 비판 그 자체를 음양론적 어법 그 자체에도 적용함으로써 나타나는 자기 부정’으로 특징지을 수 있다. 이 두 번째 의미에 도달하려면 양음론적 질서의 음양론적 재구축이라는 과정을 거쳐야 한다. 음양론은 구성적이면서 해체적이지만, 아직 구성되지 않는 질서를 먼저 해체할 수는 없기 때문이다.

Yinyang are tools of categorization and rules of utterance. There is some tension between the two roles. Most pairs of words categorized by yinyang are expressed in Yang-Yin order. What is the philosophical meaning of this phenomenon? This article critically examines the modern position that can be called ‘The myth of yinyang.’ The order is as follows. First, there is a clear bias in the phrase referring to a series of concept pairs named ‘a set of yinyang metaphors.’ Second, In order to understand the meaning of this biasedness, we reconstruct the cognitive model of the thinking based on yinyang from the viewpoint of the embodied cognition. Third, in this process, two key meanings of yinyang are shown. One is constructive and the other is deconstructive. The former criticizes the speech based on the order of yangyin as arbitrary. Constitute the yinyang dialectic as an alternative order. The latter applies deconstructive features to the yinyang dialectic itself. In this way yinyang reach their own denial. In order to reach the latter, the order of the yangyin should be reconstructed into yinyang order. It is because we can not dismantle an order not yet constituted. However, this should not be forgotten. The only condition for this rebuilding and overthrowing is that this object requires that the object to overthrow is dominant in our society. Yinyang are not words bearing a single truth. We should treat yinyang as a tool for solving the imbalance of our society.
