The purpose of this study is to validate the value of elastic taping as a sports rehabilitation supplement that improves the function of the athlete and prevents injury. We scrutinized the difference of the leg strength, electromyogram (muscle activity) were measured and analyzed. The surface EMG signal of vastus lateralis, anterior tibial muscle, gastrocnemius are measured at leg strength under two conditions (60 and 180 degrees/sec) depending on the sports taping types (Kinesio taping, extension taping) in an isokinetic extension of the knee joint (using IsoMed 2000 (GER)). The participants are 13 Taekwondo athletes of Y University in Gyeonggi Province. SPSS Statistics Version 22.0 was used to analyze all standard and standard deviations of the reference data; depending on the taping application type (Control Group, Kinesio Taping Group, Extension Taping Group), one-way analysis of variance was carried out, and Tukey’s was used as a post-verification method. The statistical level of significance was set at p<..05. The results are as follows. First, the peak torque and average power of leg strength at 60 and 180 degrees/sec depending on the sports taping type were presented in the order of Extension Taping Group, Kinesio Taping Group, and Control Group, and no significant differences were found. Secondly, a significant difference of p=. 013 was found between Kinesio Taping Group and Extension Taping Group on the muscle activity of gastrocnemius at 60-degree/sec leg strength; a significant difference of p=. 043 was found between Kinesio Taping Group and Extension Taping Group on the maximum muscle activity of the gastrocnemius. No significant differences were found in the standard and maximum muscle strength of the vastus lateralis, anterior tibial muscle, and gastrocnemius at 180-degree/sec leg strength. No significant differences were found in the standard and maximum value of muscle fatigue at the leg strength of 60 and 180 degrees/sec depending on the sports taping type. Extension Taping Group showed a tendency of increase in muscle strength to a certain degree, whereas no significant differences were drawn from the results; the result showed an increase of muscle activity, whereas the muscle fatigue did not increase in the extension taping method. From the survey of the feelings among the Taekwondo athletes after the experiment, the athletes exhibited a preference of the taping, particularly in the extension taping; the utilization of well- managed taping is deemed to have a positive influence towards injury prevention, rehabilitation, as well as overall improvement in performance.
