자폐범주성장애 아동의 의사소통 몸짓 관련 연구 동향

Literature Review on Communicative Gestures of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

본 연구는 자폐범주성장애(ASD) 아동의 의사소통 몸짓에 관한 국내외 연구들의 문헌분석을 통하여 몸짓 관련 연구의 동향을 살펴보고, 관련 요인들을 분석하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 선정 기준에 적합한 총 21편의 국내외 연구를 검색하여, 이 논문들을 그 연구주제, 연구참여자, 연구방법, 연구 결과를 중심으로 분석하였다. 그 결과 다음 세 가지 사항을 확인하였다. 첫째, ASD 아동의 몸짓 표현과 몸짓 이해 능력의 결함을 확인하여 ASD 진단의 예측치로 기능하는 기존의 결과를 뒷받침할 수 있었다. 둘째, 연구방법 면에서 종단연구와 사례연구, 중재연구에 비해 특성연구가 비교적 많았으며, 정상아동 집단과의 비교 연구 외에 지적장애 아동과의 비교 연구가 두드러지게 많았다. 셋째, ASD 유아와 아동의 몸짓 또는 제스처의 분류로 관습적 몸짓, 사상적 몸짓, 지시적 몸짓이 주로 사용되고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 ASD 아동의 모방능력과 마음이론, 거울 뉴런 관련 연구 동향이 시사하는 바를 논의하였다.

The earliest indicator of autism spectrum disorders(ASD) involve a significant impairment in comprehending the nonverbal behaviors of others and in expressing the intents with gestures. Currently, there are very few empirical studies examining whether individuals with ASD extract meaningful communication from gestures. In this study, national and international studies on gestural development in children with ASD have been reviewed in order to explore current issues and trends. Twenty-one studies have been selected and analyzed based on the topics, subjects, methods, and results. Results indicated that ASD children showed significantly lower frequencies of communicative gestures than TD children, and most research on gestures of ASD children have focused on conventional, iconic, and deictic gestures. The ASD children have cross-modal processing difficulties integrating information across speech and gesture processing in communication with others. The future direction of the research on this topic has been suggested for better understanding of the characteristics of gestures and nonlinguistic behaviors of individuals with ASD.
