자폐성 장애 청소년의 학교폭력 경험 및 지원요구

School Bullying and Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders

학교폭력에 대한 사회적 인식확산과 함께 또래와의 사회적 관계가 더욱 복잡하고 중요해지는 청소년기에 대한 관심 역시 증가하고 있다. 특히 자폐성 장애 학생의 의사소통 및 사회적 어려움은 이러한 문제를 더욱 증폭시킬 수 있다는 점에서 학교폭력 문제는 매우 중요하게 다루어져야 하는 영역이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 청소년기 자녀를 둔 어머니와의 심층면담을 통하여 학교폭력과 관련한 자녀의 경험을 탐색함으로써 관련 쟁점을 살펴보고, 추후 지원 방안에 대한 제언을 하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 다양한 자폐 스펙트럼 상에 있는 자녀를 둔 총 12명의 어머니가 자녀의 학교폭력 관련 경험을 이야기하였으며, 이 결과는 학교폭력 피해 경험, 자녀의 문제행동, 학교폭력 기여요인, 학교폭력 관련 부모 요구 및 제언 등 총 4개의 대주제와 13개의 하위주제로 정리되었다. 또한 이를 통해 자폐성 장애학생이 학교폭력과 관련해 경험하는 어려움에 대한 이해와 이를 지원하기 위한 방안 등이 논의되었다.

Many students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) experience difficulties in communication and/or social interactions so that they may be at greater risk for peer victimization. The aim of the current study was to build an understanding of bullying and victimization experiences among youth with ASD through mothers perspectives and exploring major issues related their experiences. Twelve mothers having an adolescent son or daughter with ASD were interviewed and share their children’s experiences. Qualitative content analysis identified four main themes with 13 subthemes as follows: (1) school victimization experiences, (2) problem behaviors, (3) contributing factors to bullying and victimization, and (4) parents’ needs and suggestions. We also discussed implications for understanding difficulties of students with ASD who have experienced bullying and victimization in terms of practical support for those students.
