자폐 범주성 장애의 조기진단 및 교육 연계를 위한 지원 체계 수립 요구

A Study of Support System for Facilitating Early Diagnosis and Intervention for Young Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders: Based on the Experiences and the Perceptions of Parents

자폐 범주성 장애는 출현율이 계속 증가하고 있는 추세이며 이와 함께 진단에 대한 관심도 높아지고 있다. 특히, 장애의 특성상 조기진단을 통하여 가능한 한 이른 시기에 발견하고 조기개입을 실시하는 경우 그 예후에 있어서 긍정적인 변화를 가져올 수 있음이 강조되면서 장애의 조기진단 및 교육 연계에 대한 관심은 더욱 강조되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 자폐 범주성 장애의 조기진단 및 교육 연계 활성화를 위한 지원 체계 수립 요구를 파악하기 위한 목적으로 질적연구를 실시하였다. 이를 위하여 자녀의 자폐 범주성 장애 진단 과정을 경험한 부모 10명을 대상으로 포커스 그룹 면담을 실행하였다. 그 결과, (1) 진단 의뢰 전까지의 어려움, (2) 진단 과정에서의 어려움, (3) 진단 결과와 관련된 어려움, (4) 지원 체계 수립 요구라는 4개의 주제 및 각 주제에 따른 11개의 하위주제가 도출되었다. 도출된 주제를 중심으로 자폐 범주성 장애의 조기 진단 및 교육 연계 활성화를 위한 지원요구에 대해 시사하는 바를 논의하였다.

Recently, there has been a dramatical increase in the prevalence of autism spectrum disorders(ASD). Moreover, early detection and intervention are considered as important components for promoting positive outcomes of educational services. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to find how parents experience and perceive on the process of early diagnosis of their own children as having autism spectrum disorders and transition into the early intervention services. For the purpose of the study, a total of 10 parents of children with autism spectrum disorders were participated in focus interviews. Four themes and eleven sub-themes were emerging from the qualitative analysis of the interview transcripts. Four major themes are the following: (1) difficulties in the process of referral, (2) difficulties in the process of diagnosis, (3) difficulties related to the results, and (4) needs for establishing support system. Based on the result of the study, the implications to develop support system for facilitating early diagnosis and intervention for young children with autism spectrum disorders.
