Gender Division of Labour at Home among Older Couples in South K orea

본 연구는 한국 통계청 생활시간조사 2014년 자료를 활용하여 60세 이상 노인부부의 가사 및 돌봄 노동 시간량과 분담률의 젠더 간, 젠더 내 차이에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 분석 결과 아내의 가사노동 시간량은 남편의 시간에 4배 이상이며 돌봄 노동은 2배에 가까운 것으로 나타났다. 부부 전체 가사노동 시간에 대해 남편의 가사노동 시간이 차지하는 비율은 5분의 1이 되지 않으며 돌봄 노동은 3분의 1을 조금 넘는 것으로 나타났다. 기존 연구는 은퇴를 통한 남편의 가용시간 변화나 성역할 인식의 영향에 주목하고 있다. 개인과 가구 차원의 변인을 통제하고 가용시간론, 상대적자원론, 절대적자원 론, 사회화된 성역할의 영향을 분석한 결과 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 것은 소득으로 나타났으며, 남편과 아내에서 다른 영향관계를 나타내고 있었다. 남편의 소득은 아내의 무급노동 시간에 영향을 미치지 않는 반면 아내의 소득은 남편의 가사노동 분담률과 돌봄 노동 시간량을 증가시켰다. 아내의 가사노동분담률은 상대적 소득에 의해 줄지 않는 젠더 전시적 행태도 나타나고 있다. 소득의 영향은 무급노동의 젠더 간 차이보다 젠더 내, 특히 노인 여성 집단내의 차이에 더 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 시간량보다 분담률의 차이를 더 설명하며 돌봄 노동보다 가사노동의 차이를 더 설명하는 것으로 나타 났다. 분석 결과를 바탕으로 향후 노인의 무급노동 젠더 불평등 연구에 관한 함의를 제시하였다.

This article examines gender division of labour among older couples in South Korea. We drew 2,659 couples aged 60 and over from Time Use Survey in 2014 to test time availability, absolute and relative income and gender. Gender differences in domestic chores and care work are significant; older women’s time spent on domestic chores is more than four times larger than that of mens and older women spend twice more on care work than male counterparts. Unlike previous studies which highlighted changes in time availability or gender ideology, this article suggests that income matters for gender division of labour at home in old age which effects are complex. Older women’s income not only reduces unpaid work of their own but also their husbands’ unpaid work. By contrast, husband’s income does not make influence on the wifes’ time on unpaid work. Nonetheless, relative income shows that Korean older women do gender display that those economically more independent spend no less time on domestic chores than wives more economically dependent.
