Current State of the Russian Far East’s Transport System and Prospects for the Russian-Korean Cooperation

Inthearticle the condition of the Russian Far East’s transport system key elements is considered. The condition of railway and sea transport as the most important for the region is in more detail presented. Dynamics of the main indicators of the transport work and available elements of infrastructure were analyzed. The Russian Far East, having an exit to the Pacific coast, possesses unique opportunities of sea transport and is “gate of Russia” to the Pacific Rim. However today these opportunities are insufficiently used owing to existing problems of functioning of the region’s seaports, restriction of railroad capacity, difficulties of interaction of railway and sea means of transport and other reasons. Also, in this article prospects of cooperation development between Russia and the Republic of Korea in the transport sphere are presented. Now cooperation between our countries can be effective not only in separate enterprises, but also at the level of Northeast Asia region as a whole.
