2009 개정 교육과정에 따른 중학교 국어 교과서의 토론 논제 분석

In this study, the suitability of debate topics presented in the debate units of Korean textbooks taught for middle school third graders was analyzed. Selection conditions of topics were examined in an attempt to clarify the suitability of the topics in the sixteen textbooks. The suitability of topics in the textbooks was examined on a basis of ‘One point, Pros and Cons, Timeliness, Positive Stance, Positive Declarative’. From having analyzed topics in sixteen textbooks upon such conditions, it was found that there were only four topics which satisfied the said five conditions. The other twelve topics which failed to satisfy the conditions were revised to ones appropriate for debate through ‘topic confirmation process with topic conditions applied’, which comprises four stages; ‘Grasp the topic–Apply the conditions–Refine the topic–Confirm the topic’. Unclear topics turned into ones appropriate for debate throughout the revision process by applying the five conditions for topics suggested by precedent researchers. As debate education is becoming increasingly important, an in-depth study on the topics for debate should be continuously conducted. In addition to revising the topics, efforts should be made to develop a new topic.
