Cross-country Comparison on the Growth Path and the Relative Production Efficiency of Korean Agriculture

This paper discusses the characteristics of Korean agriculture by analyzing agricultural growth path. The product ion function of international agriculture is estimated by panel analysis such as Fixed Effect (FE) and Least Square Dummy Variables (LSDV) estimations. The paper investigates whether there is a consistency between the frontier derived from partial factor productivity estimates and relative efficiency estimates from panel estimations. The results indicate that Korean agriculture follows typical growth path of developing countries until 1970s and shifts to that of develope d countries. Korean agriculture reached the frontier surface of Asian agriculture and - international agriculture. However, similar to Japan, Korean agriculture is entering the depression since 2000s. Also, the results show that the pane l analysis leads to consistent results with the agricultural growth path frontier of Yamada.
