Theoretical Research on Agricultural Cooperatives: A Stocktaking and Assessment

Economic research on agricultural cooperatives has been developed in North America n and European Countries since 1940s. This paper reviews and assesses theoretically-oriented economic literature on agricultural cooperatives that has appear ed in academic journals of English language for - the last seven decades. It is identified that the focus on economic research for agricultural co operatives has been moved from industrial organization-based market behavior investigations to contract theory-and game theory-based organizational underpinnings. The paper also dis cusses the implications for future research on Korean agricultural cooperatives.
