Estimation of Willingness to Pay for Livestock products which is produced under the Farm Animal Welfare Regulation

In recent years, there have been emerging demand and interest on farm products produced nature-friendly as well as animal welfare-friendly in Korea even if farm animal welfare (FAW) regulation is already legislated and prosecuted in several developed countries. Besides, mandatory policy on the FAW has been discussed as one of the main issues in a free trading agreement between Korea and EU. While statements that the importance of animal welfare is gradually accepted, consumer-level economic analyses of issues related to animal welfare in Korea are not available. Applying double bounded dichotomous choice based contingent valuation method (DBDC_CVM), we attempted to estimate willingness to pay (WTP) for farm products regulated by FAW law in Korea. According to survival analysis with Weibull probability distribution, the WTPs for beef, pork, chickin, egg, and milk are estimated higher than general farm products but lower than organic farm products except chicken.
