We observed changes in the demand for food diversity over time. Entropy index was chosen as an index to measure food diversity because it can be decomposed into the sum of two terms: within the group and between the groups. Empirical results show that (i) the diversity in food de-mand has been decreased over time, (ii) decreasing trend in the food diversity was partly due to aging population and a tendency toward nuclear family, and (iii) the demand for diversity in food items such as grain products, dairy products, bread & cookies, tea & alcoholic beverage, and mis-cellaneous products was found to increase for the upper(25%) income groups.
