보건/비보건계열 대학생의 남자간호사 인식

Health and Non-Health Majors’ Perception of Male Nurses: Comparison Focusing on Previous Contact Experience

본 연구는 보건/비보건계열 대학생의 남자간호사 인식정도를 조사하고 이에 직· 간접 접촉 유무에 따른 차이가 있는지 확인하고자 시도되었다. 충북의 C대학, 경기 도의 P대학의 3, 4학년 대학생(보건계열 51명, 비보건계열 154명)을 대상으로 2016년 8월부터 10월까지 설문지를 이용하여 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS/WIN 22.0 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과 보건계열의 남자간호사 인식도는 3.70점/5점 만점, 비보건계열은 3.59점/5점으로 양호하였으며, 문항 중 ‘간호직은 남녀 모두에게 어울리는 직업이다’(p<.05)를 제외하고 두군 간의 유의한 차이는 없었 다. 보건/비보건계열 구분과 남자간호사 인식 간의 유의한 상관관계는 보이지 않았 으나, 접촉과 남자간호사의 인식 간 유의한 상관관계는 확인하였다(p<.05). 특히 회귀분석을 통해, 남자간호사에 대한 직·간접 접촉이 남자간호사 인식에 영향을 미치나 설명력이 2.8%로 약하였고, 남자간호사에 대한 직접접촉이 남자간호사 인식 중심리/성격 영역에 영향을 미치나 설명력이 또한 3.0%로 약하였다. 결론적으로 계열에 상관없이 남자간호사 직·간접 접촉 유무가 남자간호사 인식에 영향을 미치며, 접촉에 따른 남자간호사 인식개선 노력이 여전히 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

This study aimed to investigate the level of perception of students enrolled in health- and non-health departments towards male nurses and find out if there are any differences in their perception with and without previous direct or indirect contact. Participants were 51 juniors and seniors from health departments and 154 juniors and seniors from non-health departments, all of whom were enrolled at C College (North Chungcheong Province) and P College (Gyeonggi Province) in South Korea. The questionnaire-based survey data were collected from August to October 2016. The data were analysed using the SPSS 22.0 (Windows) program. The results showed that health majors’ level of perception of male nurses was 3.70 out of 5.0 (full score), and that of non-health majors was 3.59 out of 5.0 (satisfactory). No statistically significant difference was found between the two groups. Although no significant correlation was present between the health/non-health distinction and the participants’ perception of male nurses, a significant correlation between the students’ previous contact with male nurses and their current perception of the nurses was confirmed to be present (p<.05). Specifically, according to the regression analysis results, despite the effects of the students’ direct/indirect previous contact with male nurses on their perception towards the nurses, the explanatory power was as weak as 2.8%. Moreover, further verification of the perception level in 3 sub-areas showed that although direct contact with male nurses did affect the psychological/personality area in the participants’ perception towards male nurses, the explanatory power was still weak, at 3.0%. In conclusion, regardless of the participants’ major (health vs. non-health), what influenced the students’ perception towards male nurses was whether or not they had previous direct or indirect contact with male nurses. Accordingly, the need for continued efforts for improving the perception of male nurses through contact still remains.
