Selection on Planning Criteria of Women-Friendly Housing Complex

This study is conducted to select the criteria to plan a women-friendly residential complex by carrying out an exploratory survey on what a woman need and feel inconvenient in an apartment house, which is typical residential culture of co-housing in Korea. For this, a range of housing complex was defined into an inclusive facility including a co-housing complex, and the shopping centers and educational facilities adjacent outside and inside the complex. This study is a quantitative research where a factor analysis and a hierarchical analysis technique (AHP: Analytic Hierarchy Process) were used. As a result, 32 plan elements were deduced for 6 factors. The comparison of the 6 factors according to the importance was in the following order: safety, childcare affinity, life convenience, pedestrian amenity, self feasibility and aesthetic landscape. This suggests that these plan indicators can serve as the criteria for developing a variety of women-friendly residential complexes that female affinity is reflected.
