The Methodological Rationality of Pancadasangayoga for Realization

압뺘딕시따(Appayyadiksita)의 “빤짜다샤앙가요가(Pancadasangayoga 이하 PAY)”는 우빠니샤드적 지혜의 요가적 활용으로 그 기능이 알려져 있다. PAY는 기존에 알려진 떼조빈두우빠니샤드(Tejo-Bindu-upanisad)의 열다섯 가지 기본 구조를 활용하면서도 그 형이상학적 기술방식이나 의도는 요가적인 합리성을 드러내기 위하여 방법론적으로 재조정된다. 본고는 그러한 압뺘딕시따의 의도가 요가의 궁극적 실재를 실천적으로 드러내기 위한 합리적인 시도로 적절한 것임을 논하는 것이 목적이다. 궁극적 실재에 대해 신비주의적으로 이해하려는 시도는, 요가가 실천철학임을 전제로 한다면, 그 수련의 방법론으로 적절하지 못하며 나아가 수련자의 나태한 태도라고 할 수 있다. 그 기원에서부터 요가의 지침서들은 궁극적 실재를 향한 개별적 체험의 학습절차가 학습자간에 공유되는 시스템을 담지하고 있다는 점에서 신비주의적이지 않으며, 합리적이다. 이에, 자칫 신비주의적으로 오도되기 쉬운 요가에 대한 일반인들의 이해를 교정하고, 요가의 본유적 합리성을 PAY를 통하여 드러내고자 하는 것이 본고의 의도이다.

This paper is mainly focused on showing the methodological efficiency of Pancadasangayoga with its scientific and critical analysis. The Pancadasangayoga (Hereinafter “PAY”) which written in Sanskrit by a yogic sage Apyayadiksita , has fifteen angas system as we can see through its title. The structure of PAY has the uniqueness, which is different from that of the typical yogic text and the reflection of the demand of the common practitioners. The rationality of Yogic system could be represented not by the vague understanding or ignorance(avidya) based on mysticism but by the specific realization(vivekakhyati) for Yoga. Likewise, we need to understand the appropriateness of PAY through the scientific criteria which has been focused as modern philosophical methodology to represent the uniqness of human consciousness, not just through the indistinctness of classical way.
