The purpose of this study investigates the relationship of industry globalization pressure and performance feedback on the internationalization of Korean firms. Based on the behavior theory of the firm, we expected that as the pressure on globalization in the industry increases and the more inward FDI of the foreign increases in Korea, it will have a positive effect on the decision making behavior of the internationalization of the firm. We also propose that performance feedback has an impact on the internationalization decision of firms and firms with both low and high aspirations are more likely to pursue internationalization. Using longitudinal data (1999-2011) from 424 publicly-listed firms in Korea, findings show that firms with high industry globalization pressure and performance feedback with low aspirations are positively related to a firm’s internationalization. We extended the behavior theory of the firm to explain the effect of the competitive isomorphism and performance aspiration on internationalization behavior of firms play an important role in corporate globalization decision-making behavior.
