The purpose of this paper is to establish clearly the identity of modern agricultural economics in Korea. The traditionally accepted definition of agricultural economics delimiting it narrowly to an applied field of economics is responsible for the identity crisis which in turn creates the survival problem of agricultural economics and the related groups. In this problem situation, we adopt seven criteria for the new identity of Korean agricultural economics : originality, singularity, applicability, creativity, actuality, popularity and subjectivity, According to the criteria, We discuss important changes made in the areas of Korean agricultural economics and the related groups, the characteristics of agricultural economics that distinguish it from general economics, and close with a discussion of the paradigm and vision of agricultural economics in Korea. In conclusion, Korean agricultural economics can be established as agro-food and environmental economics with mission oriented science in life agricultural system. In addition, agro-food and environmental economics may be characterized by methodological pluralism, such as positivism, institutionalism, historicism, sociological and anthropological approach etc.
