중동 팔레스타인에서 벌어지는 유혈 사태는 근래 일상적인 뉴스가 되다시피 하였다. 9· 11테러 이후 이 지역에 대한 관심은 고조되고 있지만 그 중요도와 관심도에 비해 이 문제에 대해 잘 알고 있지 못한 것이 우리의 현실이다. 특히 역사교육에서도 이 문제가 지닌 중요도에 비해 관심을 기울이지 못하고 있고 따라서 실제 교육 현장에서도 잘 다루어지지 않고 있다. 본 연구는 전 세계적으로 중요성이 더해지고 있는 중동 문제의 핵심이며 대립적이고 심각한 갈등 구조 속에 있는 아랍 · 이스라엘 분쟁을 주제로 학교 현장에서 활용할 수 있는 효과적인 교수·학습 방안을 개발하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 두 국가 · 민족의 대립이 심각한 만큼 어느 한 쪽 입장에 치우치지 않는 균형적 시각으로 문제의 본질을 파악하여 자기나름의 입장을 정립해 보는 것을 학습목표로 하였다. 이러한 학습 목표에 도달하기 위한 방법으로는 최근에 와서 그 중요도가 점차 커지고 있는 논쟁문제 수업 방안을 이용하였다. 또한 보다 효과적인 수업을 위해 영화와 인터넷을 활용한 토론수업의 방법을 사용하였고 실 제 교육 현장에서 그 효과를 검증해 보았다. 이러한 연구를 통해 역사 교육에서도 아랍·이스라엘 분쟁과 같이 논쟁적이거나 현재와 관련된 민감한 주제들을 회피하기 보다는 정면으로 다루어 다양한 역사 해석을 경험하게 하고 보다 균형적이고 폭 넓은 역사 인식을 얻을 수 있는 기회로 삼아야 할 것이다.
The bloodshed occurring in Palestine, Middle East has become a routine news nowadays. The interest in this region since 9.11 Terror has been growing up. But we don’t know much about this problem despite of its importance. Moreover, history education has not paid much attention to this issue and little is discussed in the actual history education field. The purpose of study is to develop an effective teaching and learning method for the specific topic of Arab-Israeli conflict, which can be easily applied to the school classes. This topic is at the core of Middle East related issue, with its significance added globally. Conducting this study, we have not tried to take any particular side with emphasis on catching the essence of the issue. We have not attempted to provide students with a balanced view on the issue. The goal is to help students to get more balanced and broader historical perspectives on the issue for themselves. To obtain this goal, we have used the method of discussion and argumentation in classes. We have also employed the use of the internet-based discussion system. And then we have tried to verify its effects in history education field for more effective lessons.
