새교육과정‘역사’의 다원적관점의역사이해와 검정중학교교과서서술

역사’는“과거 다양한 인간의 삶을 이해하고 과거에 대한 서로 다른 해석과 시각이 존재할 수 있음을 인식하게 하는 과목”으로 자기를 규정하고 다원적 관점의 역사이해를 추구하였다는 점에서 기왕의 국사나 세계사와 다르다.‘ 역사’가 다원적 관점의 역사이해를 강조하면서 한국사와 세계사를 연관시킨 내용구성을 취하게 된 데는 교육과정이 개발되던 당시역사교육을 둘러싸고 전개된 복잡하고 역동적인 학문적·정치사회적 배경이 작용하였다. 국사교육의 과도한 민족주의, 유럽과 중국 중심 세계사 교육에 대한 반성과 함께 대안을 찾기 위한 논쟁과 실천 노력이 치열하게 전개되면서 교육과정에 직간접적인 영향을 주었다. ‘역사’는 한국사와 세계사 속에서 다양한 주체들을 살려내는 방식으로 다원적인 역사이해의 토대를 마련하려고 하였다. 그러면서 세계사 속의 낯선 주체들을 인정하고, 그 중의하나로 우리를 인식함으로써, 우리의 역사 경험을 상대화하여 성찰할 수 있도록 할 것을 제안했다. 검정 심사를 통과한 새 교과서들은 이와 같은 교육과정의 요구를 다양한 정도로, 여러가지 방식으로 구체화하였다. 역사 속의 주체를 살려내려면, 과잉 민족주의나 중심-주변 방식의 세계사 내용 구성 방식을 넘어서거나 경계하려는 노력이 필요했다. 검토 결과, 교과서들이 이룬 성과와 한계들은 매우 다양한 범위에 걸쳐 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 기존의 교 과서들에서 크게 벗어나지 못한 교과서가 적지 않았으나 몇몇 교과서에서는 매우 의미 있는 진전을 발견할 수 있었다. 그리고 대체로 한국사 내용이 세계사보다 과거 교과서의 서술관행의 영향을 더 많이 받았음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이 연구는 지식사회학적 문제의식을 차용하여 교육과정과 교과서를 분석해보려는 시도이며, 분석 기준은 전적으로 필자의 관점에 따른 것이다. 다양한 시각과 관점에서 교육과정과 교과서를 검토하는 일이 관련 연구의 진전에 꼭 필요한 일이 될 것으로 생각한다.

‘History’had a new vision of itself, as a subject for understanding and insight by pluralistic view of‘ humans and their life in the past’. Around the 2005, when ‘history’curriculum development was started, historical understanding by pluralistic view had been emphasized in historial research and education. At the same time, over emphasis on the national consciousness in ‘Korean history’, and the‘ euro-china centrism’in the world history sections had been targeted as ‘chronic diseases’in history education. I think, efforts then to improve school history education resulted in new curriculum of‘ History’, and the main idea of the reform was to promote understanding and insight by pluralistic view in history class. For it, the new curriculum proposed to reanimated various‘ doer’in the past; states, nations, women, merchants, peasants, and other disadvantaged people. It suggested to relativize ‘korean history’in the vast expanse of world history, dynamic dramas of all mankind, that made up with interactions, contacts for very long time. The curriculum said these approaches would develop student’s ability to understand history by pluralistic view. The pluralistic view is one of values which history education should make pupils have. The pluralistic view makes the pupil understand historical facts with multiple viewpoint and have his own eyesight. Historical understanding with pluralistic view should be reasonable and defend the universal value of humanity. This survey found that all the text books did their best to realize the ideal of ‘History’. A few had made a enormous accomplishment both in terms of recreating various characters in history and leading students into the vivid learning experience. But, many was still in the undesirable practices of yesteryear. In particular,‘ old’Korean history text books exerted great influence upon newly-developed textbooks in many ways.
