이 글은 영국 교과서에 서술된 효벅관련 내용을 통하여 영국이 바라보는 효택어| 대한 인식이 영국 역사 교과서에서 어떻게 재현되고 있는지 살펴보는 것이 목적이다 이를 위해서 영국 국가교육과정에서 역사 과목의 학습범위와 내용은 어떻게 규정되는지 알아보고 영국 교괴서 내 효택 관련 내용이 어떻게 서술되는지 살펴보았다. 영국 국가교육과정은 주요 단계 (KS1-4)로 나누어 각각의 단계에서 역사 과목의 학습범위와 내용을 구체적으로 명시하고 있다. 2007년 중등교육과정에 해Wof는 K않과 K않의 개정을 통하여 역사과 목이 K영의 선택과목에서 제외되었기 때문에 효택사가 소개될 수 있는 부분은 KS3이다. 영국 교과서 내 효택관련 내용은 앙적으로 적은 편이며 효택관련 내용 또한 일제 식민지배를 받았던 1930년대와 효택전쟁 두 가지로 요약된다 일제 식민지배를 받았던 1930년대의경우 효택이 일본의 식민지 중의 하나라는 수석어구와 함께 일본의 만주침략을 묘시한 지도에서 효택-O! 일본의 한 부분으로 소개된다. 일본이 효단f을 부당하게 침략하고 점렁했다는 서술은 없으며 단지 효택은 일본의 식민지배를 받은 지역이며 일본의 한 부분으로 나타난다 영국 교과서에 서솔된 효벅 관련 내용 중 비중있게 소개되는 것은 효단펀쟁이다， 효묵전쟁 서술의 초점은 효벅전쟁 자체에 대한 관심보다 공산주의 확~뻐| 대한 미국의 정책변화와 대응 그리고 냉전시대 미국과 소련의 대립에 있었다. 효댁은 효벅전쟁이 발발한 지리적공간으로만 존재할 뿐이며 효택인과 효택의 국내 상횡에 대한 관심은 찾아보기 어렵다 영국 역사 교과서에서 효댁은 의도적으로 배제되었다거나 효벅 관련 내용이 임의로 누락 · ξ쩨 · 축소되었다기보다는 오히려 고려의 대상이 아닌 ‘주변적인 것으로 생략되었다할 수 있다. 어느 국가의 교과서든 교과서에 특정 내용이 강조 · 축소 · 생략되는 것은 당연하다. 교과서는 특정 국가의 제도와 정치적 입장을 반영한 사회적 산물이기 때문에 교과서내용으로 인하여 국가간 분쟁이 초래되기도 하고 국가간의 역사적 화해률 이꿀어내기도 한다. 이와 같은 특성을 기반으로 교과서의 지속적인 개선을 도모하고 국가 간의 교류증진을 위한 매개체로 발전하기를 기대한다.

This article aims at exmng representa。n of English cogni。n about Korea through Korean-Narratives in English story ttbooks. It res the following quons ， Firstly, how leaming scφe and contents of textbooks within Enish Na。na1 Curriculum are provided. Secondly, how Korean contents in Enishttbooks are described. English National Curriculum is classified into four Key Stages. Detailed learning scope and contents of history are presented in each stage. l11foU。ut these stages, Korean story is only introduced at ， Stage three due to revision Key Stage three and four that fall .mder seconry education cuπicu1um in 2007. The portion of Korean contents in Enish story textb∞k is re1atively smll and it can be summarised two pts which are the period under Japanese colonial rules in 1930s and Korean War. In the case of the fonner, Korea is introduced as one part of Japanese colonies through describing Mancburia invasion on the map. Althou1 English history textbook gave major coverage t。 the Korean War, it desc벼es not the Korean War itself but changes of American polides and their responses with :panding communism. That is, it focuses on antagonistic relation between the United States and the Soviet Union using Korean War In the English history tebooks ， Korean contents are hard to find. However, it does not mean that Korean contents -e not excluded and removed deliberately. Namely, Korea in English textbook can be regarded as not essential but periphery coun. It is nature that certain contents in ttbooks of every country can be emphasised or ornitted. Since textbook as a social produα plays an important role in reflecting politica1 stance and regulation of certn country, it leads to conflicts and reconciliation between countries. lerefore ， it becomes the oecriCm and controversy due to its essential and ambiva1ent features. on the basis of these features, I expect that it become a vehicle to promote exchange between countries through sustaining improvement of ttbook.
