문화·역사지리의관점에서 본중등학교역사교과서

An Analysis of Middle and High School History Textbook on the View of the Cultural and Historical Geography

역사와 지리는 상호 밀접한 관련을 가지고 있다. 효율적인 역사학습을 위해서는 지리적 관점이 필요하다. 이 연구에서는 중·고등학교 역사교과서의 서술내용을 문화·역사지리의 관점에서 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 분석의 기준으로 삼는 것은 문화·역사지리의 주요개념이라고 할 수 있는 인간과 환경의 상호작용, 지역의 역사적 의미와 변화, 문화 전파와 교류이다. 이 연구의 분석대상은 주로 (주)미래엔에서 나온『중학교 역사』(상)·(하)와『고등학교한국사』이다. 그밖에 필요할 경우 다른 출판사의 교과서를 검토하였다. 역사교과서는 인간과 환경의 관계를 일방적으로 서술하고 있다. 지리적 환경이 인간에게 미친 영향에 초점을 맞추거나, 반대로 인간의 활동이 환경을 어떻게 변화시켰는 지 서술하였다. 그렇지만 인간과 환경의 관계를 상호작용의 관점으로 보는 서술은 나타나지 않는다. 역사교과서에는 문화요소의 복합체로서 지역이 나타나지 않는다. 역사교과서에서 지역은 중앙 역사의 사례이거나 문화유적지로 등장한다. 역사교과서가 국가사를 중심으로 서술되고 있으며, 지역의 자연 환경에만 관심을 쏟기 때문이다. 근래 역사교육에서도 인간의 다양한 삶과 다원적 관점의 역사이해를 강조한다. 이에 따라 역사교과서에도 생활사나 문화사 서술이 늘고 있으며, 문화 교류와 전파에 관심을 쏟는다. 그러나 역사 변화를 정치, 경제사를 중심으로 서술하는 경향이 바뀐 것이 아니라, 이와는 별개로 생활사와 문화사를 서술하고 있다. 또한 인간의 관점과 행위와 가미된 복합체로서 문화는 찾아보기 어렵다.

There is the intimate relations between history and geography. Geographical viewpoint is necessary to effective history learning. This study analyzed middle and high school history textbooks on the view of the cultural and historical geography. The analysis criteria of this study are‘ the interaction of people and environment’,‘ historical meaning and change of region’and‘ culture diffusion and mutual exchange’, which are main concepts of cultural and historical geography. This study analyzed Middle School History and High School Korean History published in Mirae N. mostly and the history textbooks of other publishers when necessary. The relation between people and the environment is unilaterally described in history textbooks. The descriptions of history textbooks focused on geographical environmental influence on people, or emphasize environmental change by people’s activities on the contrary. But history textbooks didn’t describe the interaction between people and the environment. History textbooks didn’t regard the region as the complex of cultural elements. The regions were described as examples of national history or historical sites. Most contents of them were national history, and their descriptions were concerned on natural environments. Recently, people’s specific lives and historical understanding with multiple viewpoint have been valued in the history education. The historical understanding with pluralistic viewpoint has been recently emphasized in history education. Contents of life history and cultural history have been increased, and the cultural exchange and diffusion has been emphasized in middle and high school history textbooks. But historical changes are still focused on political and economic history, and life history and cultural history are described separately from politics or economy. The culture as the complex of people’s viewpont and activity was seen in history textbooks.
