Following the popular success of Shin Kyung-sook s novel Please Look After Mom among both Korean and international audiences, the novel has been examined from various perspectives in a wide range of studies. Starting with the English version published in the U.S., Please Look After Mom was published in a total of 22 countries, including Arab nations, sparking active research in the field of translation studies. Instead of direct translation from the Korean original, the Arabic version of Please Look After Mom was retranslated from the English version. In this study we compare the Korean, English and Arabic rendering of cultural words appearing in the novel. Then we classify these cultural words into their respective fields and analyze the translation strategies used in each field for the Arabic version. Through this process we identify the reason why non-equivalence in meaning appears between the Korean and Arabic cultural words used. The results of this study can contribute to professional training courses in Korean-Arabic literature translation, and hopefully serve as valuable reference for professional translators translating Korean literature works into Arabic.
