운곡(雲谷) 정인영 창업회장의 리더십과 사회적 책임경영

본고는 한라그룹의 창업자인 운곡(雲谷) 정인영 회장의 경영철학과 그의 리더십과 사회적 책임경영을 고찰하는데 목적이 있다. 한라그룹은 창업자인 운곡 정인영 회장의 창업정신과 경영이념을 바탕으로 하여 세계적인 기업으로 성장하였고, 한국경제의 발전에 크게 기여한 기업집단이다. 오늘날 한라가 세계기업으로 등장의 이면에는 창업자인 정인영 회장의 기업가 정신과 탁월한 리더십을 빼놓고 설명할 수 없다. 운곡 정인영 회장은 슘페터가 지적한 바와 같이, 사업을 위한 창의적인 열정과 신념을 가지고 위험을 기꺼이 감수하고 극복해내며 또한 위험을 관리하는데 있어 치밀한 조직 능력과 대응책을 갖춘 기업인이었다. 이러한 운곡의 리더십 이면에는 운곡의 탁월한 경영철학이 뒷받침하고 있다. 그는 계몽적 자유사상을 기반으로 한‘희망경영철학’을 출발점으로 해서 ‘정도경영철학’과 ‘공동체경영철학’으로 이어지는 세계관을 확고히 마련하고 있다. 운곡의 창조, 혁신, 공동체에 기반을 둔 경영이념은 의사결정 과정에서는 창조적 도전의 카리스마 리더십으로, 그리고 의사실천 과정에서는 혁신적 정도의 슈퍼리더십으로 나타난다. 또 운곡은 유기적공동체 구현의 계몽적 자유사상에 입각하여 기업의 사회적 책임이행의 소명의식을 지니고, 사회적 가치창출의 책임경영을 적극적으로 실현하였다. 그는 오늘날의 “중화학 공업의 강국 한국”을 불모지에서 일구어 낸 기업가로서 산업 보국, 인재육성 등 국가사회에 대한 사회적 책임경영과 함께, 지역개발, 종업원복지향상 등 지역사회와 기업사회에 대한 사회적 책임경영에도 노력을 아끼지 않았다. 운곡 정인영회장의 경영철학과 실천은 또한 우리에게 경영을 보는 눈 , 그리고 경영의 이론과 실제 에 하나의 틀 (構造)을 제공하고 있다. 운곡의 경영사상과 실천은 우리에게 경영이란 무엇이며 그의 본질은 어디에 있는가에 대한 깊은 생각과 인식의 장을 제공해 준다. 특히 우리에게 계몽적 자유주의와 지속가능성장 경영모형, 그리고 한국적 가치창출 경영모형을 연구토록 하는 경영패러다임 모색에 새로운 장을 열어주고 있다.

The paper aims to study the leadership of late In-Yung Chung, founder of Halla Group and his management philosophy based on corporate social responsibility. Halla Group has grown to be a global business leader under the influence of Chairman Chung s management philosophy and founding principles, and it has been a significant contributor to the growth of the Korean economy. These can be well explained by the prominent leadership and entrepreneurship of Chairman Chung. Chairman Chung eagerly took risks and overcame challenges with his creative passion and firm belief in business, as Joseph Schumpeter had described. He was also a businessman equipped with meticulous organizational skills and strategic solutions to business issues. His strong leadership was underpinned by the prominent business and management philosophy. Starting from the hope management philosophy rooted in enlightenment and liberalism, he strongly advocated the spirit of ‘righteous management and communal management . He has worked effectively with charismatic leadership in making decisions and with super-leadership in executing these decisions. Upholding the ideals of enlightenment and liberalism to create an organic community, he faithfully fulfilled corporate social responsibilities and implemented responsible management practices in order to generate social value. As an entrepreneur who nurtured the heavy and chemical industry in Korea from the scratch, he was committed to socially responsible management for the nation by growing industries and talents, and to regional development as well as better welfare for employees.
