고등학생의 사료이해 양상

High School Students’ Understanding on Source Materials

본고에서는 강선주의 “중학생의 사료이해 유형 분석과 사료학습에 대한 시사”란 학위논문에서 사용된 갑신정변과 관련된 사료를 활용해서 질문지 조사 방법을 통해 고등학생의 사료이해 유형을 살펴보았다. 이어서 좀 더 길고 자세한 사료를 활용해서 ‘말하면서 생각하기’ 방법을 통해 고등학생들의 사료이해 양상을 조사하였다. 질문지 조사 방법은 응답자의 성실성을 전제로 하기 때문에 조사 결과가 부정확할 가능성이 있지만, ‘말하면서 생각하기’ 방법은 연구자가 직접 피험자와 접한 상황에서 조사가 이루어지기 때문에 좀 더 정확한 조사 결과를 얻을 수 있다. 하지만 준비과정과 시행과정에서 시간이 많이 걸리고 적용과정에서 어려움이 있다는 제한점이 있다. ‘말하면서 생각하기’ 방법은 피험자의 사고과정을 드러낼 수 있는 강력한 조사방법이지만 본고에서는 연구자의 경험 부족 때문에 효과적으로 활용하지 못하였다. 본고에서 조사했던 고등학생들은 서울의 실업계 학생이었는데 사료의 신뢰성과 내용 파악의 경우에 대체로 유형 2와 유형 3의 사료이해 양상을 보였다. 학생들은 사료를 비판적으로 읽는데 익숙하지 않았기 때문에 사료의 내용을 사실로 믿는 경향을 보였고, 역사적 상황이나 맥락과 관련하여 사료를 이해하지는 못하였다. 학생들은 사료의 출전파악이 사료이해에 중요하다는 사실을 모르기 때문에 사료의 신뢰성과 내용 파악에서 어려움을 겪었다. 따라서 사료학습을 시행할 때에는 학생들이 사료를 비판적으로 대하도록 강조해야 하고 사료의 출전을 반드시 확인하도록 지도해야 한다. 아울러 학생들이 이해하기 쉽도록 사료나 교과서 내용을 자세하게 풀어서 서술할 필요가 있다.

Purposes of this studies are researches about aspects of high school students’ understanding on source materials, Research methods used in this studies are questionnaire and ‘think-aloud’, In this studies, aspects of high school students’ understanding on source materials about ‘gapsinjeongbyun’ in 1884 were researched with two methods, ‘Think-aloud’ method is more effective than questionnaire method in exposing thinking processes of the responses. Majority of the responses was sorted in type two and type three, They exhibited a tendency to consider contents of source material as facts, and could not understand historical conditions and contexts, They suffered difficulties in understanding reliances and contents of source material because of disregarding it’s authority Therefore in source methods teachers should emphasize to read source materials critically and guide to identify it’s authority, And source materials and textbooks should be written minutely.
