A Study on English Literature Education Using English Literature Text - Centering on Great Expectations -

This study focuses on education of English Literature targeting students of English Language and Literature. This study points out that teaching methods of English language or literary theories have been used as an alternative of teaching method of literature for about 100 years. Therefore, this study identified properties and nature of education of English literature using English texts by examining the concepts of literature and literature education. Then concepts of literature and language are organized for a foundation of integrated education for literature, language and culture. Then this study developed a teaching and learning principle of English literature centering on learners response and gained an integrated English literature teaching and learning principle. This study has a meaning in that it presents a suggestion that effective teaching methods for literature of foreign language should be developed by considering the nature of literary education and literary, linguistic and cultural properties of literary texts in foreign languages.
