A Historical Perspectives on Korean Capital Market

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the historical perspective the ca tal market of Korea during 1890 ~2005 by classifying the periods according to the progress of system and econorrllc situation, and suggesting the special characters of the capital market of Korea with outJine of the stage of capi때 market development n the process of the introduction of the econornic system for the compusory oc cupation by japanese government, Korean capital market started to make the modern form. From the early stage of national economic development after 1961, Government has gotten down to intensively foster the seιurities market as the way to supply economic development fund. In the late of 1997, Korean finance structure which was internally fragi le as the result of the high growth emphasizing only the economic growth was restructured by IMF, a crisis of foreign exch. ;e and had the foundation to arrive the mature capital market. These analysis about Korean modern capital market suggests that this time is the chance to upgrade the Korean capital market in the global capital market.
