After liberation from Japanese imperialism in 1945, the numbers of the vested companies from the Korean government were about 2,700, however, in reality, only 2,000 out of those firms became vested in the private organizations. It is estimated that only 40 to 50 firms survived out of 2,000 companies. The survival rate is 2 to 2.5%. It is reported that 39 firms are related to Chaebols, and only 26 firms have survived until now. It means that 53 to 65% of firms belong to Chaebol, and the survival rate of the Chaebol s owned companies is relatively higher than other vested companies. Disposal of vested companies solved the problem of the permanent insufficiency of materials and promoted the entrepreneurial activity from 1945 to 1950s, helped the private capital accumulation of Korea, and played a decisive role to form Chaebols throughout 1950s. As the result, the disposal of vested companies brought about the concentration of the economic power on Chaebols in the modern capitalism of Korea since liberation. However, it is undeniable that Chaebols contributed to the growth of Korean economy by growing and developing the vested companies.
