사전인출과 사후인출을 접목한 학습 방법이 지연 기억에 미치는 영향

Effects of prior and posterior retrieval strategies on delayed memory

본 연구의 목적은 초등학생을 대상으로 새로운 학습 내용에 대한 사전인출이 지연 기억에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있는지 탐색하는 것이다. 그리고 사전인출이 지연 기억에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 때, 사전인출과 사후인출을 접목한 학습 방법이 사후인출을 반복하는 학습 방법보다 지연 기억에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 수 있는지 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 2016년도에 초등학교 5학년 282명을 대상으로 연구를 진행하였으며, 분석 방법으로 독립표본 t검증, 일원분산분석, 이원분산분석, 다변량분산분석을 사용하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 사후인출 집단과 사전인출 집단 모두 통계적으로 유의한 수준에서 복습 집단보다 더 높은 지연 기억검사 점수가 확인된 반면, 사후인출 집단과 사전인출 집단 간에는 지연 기억검사 점수 차이가 통계적으로 유의하지 않는 것으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 사전인출과 사후인출을 접목한 학습 방법 집단과 사후인출을 반복하는 학습 방법 집단 간에 지연 기억검사 결과 차이는 없는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 지연 기억에 영향을 미치는 학업성취 수준과 학습 방법 간의 상호작용효과는 없는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 연구결과는 새로운 내용에 대한 학습 전에 사전인출을 통해 새로 배울 내용과 관련된 정보를 인출하게 한 다음, 새로운 내용을 학습하고, 배운 내용에 대해 사후인출을 하는 방법 또한 유용하게 사용할 수 있는 교수-학습 방법임을 시사한다.

The purpose of this study was to examine whether opportunities to retrieve information prior to learning can greatly maximizing students ’ memory. To extend the testing effect which providing students with opportunities to retrieve information, the current study explored the potential benefit of the attempt to retrieve information both prior and post to learning can have a greater impact on delayed memory of the learning material than the attempt to retrieve information only post to learning. Results from that data of 282 5th graders in elementary school can be summarized as follows. First, students who engaged in either prior or post retrieval performed better in delayed memory than students who only reviewed the learning materials. However, there was no significant differences of delayed memory in between prior and post retrieval attempts Second, a combination of prior and post retrieval practices has no meaningful effect on students ’ delayed memory compared to a repeated retrieval post to learning. Third, this study confirmed that there was no significant interaction effects of achievement level and retrieval strategies to enhancing delayed memory. The results of this study provided us with insights on effective retrieval strategies on learning. Specifically, this study underlined the importance of attempts to retrieve information before students learn the materials and let them to retrieve afterward the learning can be an effective teaching and learning method for maximizing students memory.
