飯豊王女(イヒトヨ)に関する一考察

A Study on “Iitoyo-no Himemiko”

本稿は、『記』『紀』における｢飯豊王女(イヒトヨ)｣の在り方をめぐってそ の人物像や葛城の氏族との関わりについて考察したものである。まず、｢イヒトヨ｣の人物像は、王権の危機に擁立された、巫女的な能力 をもつ独身に近い女王であると同時に、男王の出現までの中継ぎ的な女王として書かれている。二つ目に、イヒトヨと葛城氏との関わりは、ソツヒコを祖先としていることからそれは充分に考えられる。葛城系氏族のツブラオホミの伝承は雄略による葛城の玉田宿禰系の滅亡を意味するもので、この背景として、葛城氏の位相に大きな変化があったことを示唆している。三つ目に、一言主大神との関連性については、『記』『紀』では葛城山の大猪の話を直前に配置し、最初は神の掌握に失敗したものの、最終的にその祭祀に成功したことを強調している。これは祭祀をめぐって大王家と一言主大神の奉斎氏族である葛城氏との攻防の物語であったと考えられる。四つ目に、｢イヒトヨ｣の別名にある｢忍海｣の表記は在地の有力な忍海氏との関係性を示している。窮地に追込まれていた葛城系のオケ․ヲケの二王子を、一族で支援したのは忍海氏であり、またイヒトヨの中継ぎ的な女王としての役割にも忍海氏の強力な支援があったと考えられる。『古事記』にイヒトヨよりさきに書き出している｢忍海郎女｣はその象徴的な表れである。

In this article, we explore the figure of “Iitoyo-no Himemiko”(henceforth, “Iitoyo”) and her connection with the Katsuragi clan, as described in Kojiki and Nihonshoki. Firstly, Iitoyo is depicted as the queen who was granted the title at the crisis of the sovereignty and possessed a psychic power, as well as the queen who played a transient role until a king replaced her position. Secondly, the connection between Iitoyo and the Katsuragi clan can be reasonably assumed, given that their ancestor is Sotsuhiko. The lore of Tsuburahomi means the demise of the lineage of Tamada-no Sukune katsuragi. As the background information of this, it is suggested that a large change in the phase of the Katsuragi clan occurred during this period of time. Thirdly, as for its connection with Hitokotonushi-no Ookami, Kojiki places the story of wild boars in the mountain of Katsuragi immediately before the story of Hitokotonushi-no Ookami, emphasizing that, although the initial attempt to control the god failed, they finally succeeded in enshrining the god. This can be regarded as the story of offensive and defensive battles over the right of enshrining the god between the Ookami clan and the Katsuragi clan. Finally, the alternative name to Iitoyo, Oshinumi, indicates its connection with the Oshinumi clan, a thriving group in the local area. It is the Oshinumi clan that entirely supported the prince Oke Woke (the Katsuragi clan) when he was in a tight corner; further, the Oshinumi clan gave strong support to Iitoyo, who acted as a transient queen. This is symbolically reflected in Kojiki, where Oshinumi-no Iratsume is mentioned earlier than Iitoyo.
