村上春樹作品に見られる近代科学と自我の喪失

The Loss of Self Consciousness and Modern Science in the Literature of Haruki Murakami

本論文は、村上春樹の長編作『世界の終りとハードボイルド․ワンダーランド』の中で影響力を持つ音楽を特定し、作品世界や登場人物にどのような影響を及ぼすのか考察したものである。主人公｢私｣の脳内で作られた無意識世界｢世界の終り｣は、完璧な理想的世界であるが、一方では、その世界を維持するために、自我の主体である｢影｣と分離し、心を持つことが許されない世界である。｢私｣の内的存在である｢僕｣は切り離された｢影｣が死ぬまで、心を持つ不完全な存在として描かれている。この世界が作られた背景には、科学的欲求を満たすために、人体実験を厭わない老人や、老人の研究のために人工的な脳を持つ｢私｣の人格が反映されている。村上春樹は、洗脳された社会を通して、当時の日本社会の何を描きたかったのか、音楽が存在しない世界の中で、音楽の発見は何を意味しているのか検討したものである。

In this article, we specify the type of music which is influential in Haruki Murakami’s literary work “Hard‐boiled wonderland and the end of the world” and analyze its effects on the world depicted in the work as well as the characters of the work. The unconscious world created inside the imagination of the main character ‘I’(私), or “the end of the world,” is a perfect, idealized world. On the other hand, it is also viewed as the world where the main character dissociates himself from his unconscious subject, “shadow”(影), to maintain the world and the character is not allowed to possess the mind. Another ‘I’(僕), an internal entity of ‘I’(私), is portrayed as a mind‐equipped incomplete entity until the dissociated “shadow” dies. The background of this world reflects elderly people who do not hesitate to conduct experiments on human bodies to satisfy their desire of success in science and the personality of ‘I’(私) who possesses an artificial brain for the study on elderly people. In short, we explore which aspects of the Japanese society of the time Haruki Murakami wants to convey through the depiction of the brainwashed society and what the discovery of music means in the world where music does not exist.
