Cancer caregiving of older parents: Caregiving stress, psychosocial resources, and quality of life of adult children

본 연구는 노인암환자를 돌보는 성인자녀 수발자의 수발 스트레스, 사회심리적 자원인 낙관성과 사회적지지, 그리고 그들의 삶의 질의 관계를 조사한 연구이다. 국내 5개의 대학병원 및 종합병원에서 노인암환자를 돌보는 165명의 성인자녀를 대상으로 자료를 수집하여 다중회귀분석과 부트스트래핑 방법을 활용한 매개효과검증방법으로 분석하였다. 분석결과, 수발 스트레스는 자녀 수발자의 삶의 질에 직접적으로 영향을 미칠 뿐 아니라, 낙관성 중 비관영역과 사회적 지지를 매개로 간접적으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 성인자녀 수발자의 삶의 질을 높이기 위해서 낙관성 중 비관에 초점을 맞추고, 사회적 지지의 수준을 높이는 등 이들에게 적절한 사회복지 프로그램의 개입이 필요할 것이다.

This study examined the relationship of caregiving stressors, psychosocial resources of optimism and social support and the quality of life of the Korean adult children providing care to their older parents with cancer. Caregivers (N= 165) of parents with cancer were recruited from four sites of university-based hospitals and a medical center in Korea. Multiple regression analysis and mediation analysis with bootstrapping approach were used. Caregiving stressors directly affected the quality of life of caregivers and indirectly affected quality of life through the pessimism dimension of optimism. The indirect effects of stressors via social support also were found. It is suggested that social work program should be developed specifically meeting their needs focusing on caregiving stressors as well as optimism and social support.
