전 생애과정적 관점에서 바라본 한국노인들의 적응유연성에 대한 연구

Resilience and Adaptation of Korean Elderly by Life-course Perspective

본 연구는 노인들을 대상으로 이들이 살아오면서 겪은 많은 인생역경과 위기들을 다차원적인 측면에서 살펴보고, 주요 생애사건과 적응유연성, 그리고 노년기 삶의 적응과의 관계를 밝히고자 하였다. 연구조사를 위해 서울과 경기지역을 중심으로 할당표본추출을 통해 65세 이상 노인 330명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 최종적으로 312부를 SPSS Win 17.0 프로그램을 통해 분석하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연구대상 노인들의 삶에 큰 위기였던 주요 생애사건으로는 은퇴, 건강 약화, 해고, 만성질환 가족원에 대한 케어, 사고, 배우자 사망, 이혼, 장애, 자녀출가, 자녀사망, 전쟁, IMF 등이 나타났다. 둘째, 주요 생애사건 경험에 따라 노년기 삶의 적응에 있어 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 셋째, 생애사건과 적응유연성이 노년기 적응에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 살펴본 결과 통제변인 중 교육수준과 소득수준이, 생애사건 변인 중 이혼, 사별, 주관적 건강상태 변화가, 적응유연성 요소 중에서는 신념체계와 조직패턴이 노년기 적응에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 노년기 삶의 적응을 노년기에 국한된 것이 아닌 전 생애과정적인 관점에서 통합적으로 이해할 수 있도록 기여했으며, 노년기 적응에 영향을 미치는 보호요인을 밝힘으로써 궁극적으로 고령사회에 대비하여 노인들의 삶의 질을 높이기 위한 기초를 마련했다.

The purpose of this study is to examine what are the major life events of Korean elderly in their whole life by multi-dimensional approach and to analyze the relation between major life events, resilience, and life adaptation of old age. The data was achieved from the elderly aged over 65 years living in Seoul and Kyunggi areas and finally 312 cases were used in this study. The results are as follows. First, the major life events threatened elderly s life are retirement, health weakening, layoff, long-term care for family, accident, bereavement, divorce, handicap, wedding of children, death of children, war, and IMF. Second, there are significant differences in adaptation of old age by life events. Third, the variables that affected the life adaptation of elderly are educational status, economic status, divorce experience, bereavement experience, subjective health weakening, belief system, and organizational pattern. These results based on life-course perspective provide integrated understanding about elderly adaptation and practical implications to promote quality of life for Korean elderly.
