한화그룹의 경제적 기여와 사회공헌활동

The Contribution to Economic Development and Society of Hanwha Group

해방이후 한국경제는 높은 경제적 성과를 오랜 기간 동안 계속 유지해왔다. 1952년에 한국화약주식회사의 설립으로부터 출발한 한화그룹은 한국경제의 성장 궤적과 밀접하게 연관되어 성장하였다. 이 논문은 한국경제의 성장과정에서 한화그룹이 어떤 기여를 했으며, 한화그룹의 성장요인이 무엇인가를 해명하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 분석 내용을 정리하면, 다음과 같다. 첫째, 김종희 회장 시기에는 기업 성장에 정부가 매우 중요한 역할을 수행했다는 점이다. 한화그룹은 정부의 정책 방향에 순응하여 1950년대에는 화약의 수입대체를 성공시켰고, 고도성장기에는 기계공업, 석유화학공업, 에너지산업 등에 진출하여 자립경제의 기반을 강화하는데 기여하였다. 이들 중화학공업 분야는 정부의 산업정책과 일치하여 한화그룹은 빠르게 성장할 수 있었고, 이 결과 1970년대 초에 10대 기업집단에 포함하게 되었다. 둘째, 김승연 회장 시기에는 두 가지 중요한 환경 변화가 있었다. 정부의 경제운용기조가 변화하고 경제자유화조치가 취해지면서 기업성장 요인으로 기술혁신 노력이 무엇보다도 중요하게 되었다. 이 기간 동안 한화그룹이 빠르게 성장할 수 있었던 것은 기술혁신을 강력히 추진했다는 점과 유통·레저부문과 금융부문과 같이 1980년대 이후 빠르게 성장한 산업으로 진출했다는 점이다. 다음에 중요한 것은 기업의 사회적 책임이 강조되면서 한화그룹이 사회공헌활동을 적극적으로 추진한 점이다.

The Korean Economy have achieved high economic performance since liberation. Hanwha Group which started to found Hanwha Explosion Company in 1952 greatly contributed to economic growth of Korea. The purpose of this paper is to make growth factors of The Hanwha and contribution to growth of Korea clear. The result of study is as follows. First, the government played a very important role in firm growth in the period of chairman Kim Jong-hee. Therefore, The Hanwha which conformed to government policy achieved import substitution of explosives in 1950s, contributed to enhancement of self-sustaining economy base by entering into machine, petrochemistry and energy industry in high growth period. These heavy chemical industries which were included in industry policy of government guaranteed The Hanwha to grow rapidly. Secondly, technological innovations were important to firm growth because of change in economic management system and adoptation of economic liberation policy in the period of chairman Kim Seung-yeon. In this period, growth factors of Hanwha tried to do a lot of technological innovation and was to successfully went into growing industry such as distribution industry, leisure industry and financial business.
