Production of Art Makeup & Nail Art Design Using Chinese Traditional Geometry Patterns

In the modern era, traditional patterns have become more precise and elaborate with clearer colors. As they grow and evolve in a more semiotic fashion, they have also been applied to diverse design fields. This study attempted to produce and propose art makeup and nail art design with academic systematization and traditional geometry patterns as motifs through theoretical reviews (e.g., literature, research data, etc.) on Chinese traditional geometry patterns. The results found the following: Depending on morphological characteristics, the most typical geometry patterns include hoemun, yeouimun, noemun, manjamun, ajamun and ballimun. Art makeup was expressed through the use of such patterns as motifs. In addition, nail art design was created using diverse expression techniques (e.g., 2D, 3D art, hand painting, stone art, water decals, gradation, etc.) after applying noemun, manjamun and hoemun via gel nail art techniques. The usability of these patterns in beauty design has been confirmed. It appears that such patterns are useful in art makeup and nail art as formative arts in beauty design.
